Susan Smith "looked the country in the eye and lied," about killing her two sons, Assistant Solicitor Keith Giese said during opening statements on July 18, 1995.
"She knew right from wrong. She could control her action if she wanted to, and she did not," he said. "This was a conscious decision by Smith to kill her children."
